Articles and their associated submissions are one of the central features of the
GenesONS research collaboration systems, creating a highly effective Content Management System (CMS) capability.
Articles can be used for a wide variety of content where a more structured approach is required with an owner that edits and perhaps evolves the content from comments and feedback.
The screen shot below shows some example uses of Articles. These illustrate that each Article is structured to consist of a header followed by a body:
where the body for an individual Article is opened when the

To provide a highly structured approach for Content Management, there are three main components to the approach for managing 'Articles': Topics, Articles and Submissions.
- Topics: each Article must belong to one, and only one, Topic. Each Topic therefore provide an umbrella for a range of different Articles, where example Topics could be:
- Articles about Birth, Marriage and Death Indices
- Articles about DNA research
- Articles about Probate, etc.
- Article - the individual content items that are drafted, displayed, and commented on once they are published.
- Submission - this is essentially the same as an Article and is managed during its creation and editorial stages in a similar way, but is not published until approved by an authorised administrator.
If you have any questions or suggestions for using Articles then please do post a comment in our Demo Feedback Forum which you can access once you login using the id/password of testuser/testuser.
