In the following demonstration pages (which are all Wiki Pages) you will see at the top of each page a series of underlined menu links that allow you to go backwards through the path of links that you have clicked through to the Homepage or even back to the main
GenesONS web site. In these example pages these so-called 'bread crumbs' have been added manually to every page - a relatively simple process - but more efficient processes are available to automate the generation of these 'bread crumbs' according to a defined structure. In this way, when you create many different pages using your
ONSshoebox Research Data Management Facilities you will be able to help your users navigate the information in an easy and intuitive manner. In addition all directly linked pages can be easily accessed from the 'backlinks ...' drop down menu at the top right of every Wiki page.
The
GenesONS Research Data Management Facilities, or
ONSshoebox, provide a wide range of hosted service capabilities that are briefly demonstrated here.
Click through to any of the following pages to review each specific capability.
Wiki capabilities allow pages, like the ones you are viewing now, to be easily created and evolved.
Image Galleries can be used to create an on-line archive of your family history images and scanned documents.
Articles allow more formal documents to be authored by an individual user and commented upon in an iterative way prior to being 'published'.
Forums or discussion boards allow on-line 'debates' to be held on any topic that is opened as a 'thread'.
Directory provides a convenient way to compile and annotate external internet links that will be of use for the wider research group
File Galleries allow on-line repositories of individual files of any document type to be created and shared amongst the group.
