Demonstration facilities
Image Galleries allow Users to compile and store on-line images associated with their family history research, and they can be built in a hierarchical manner to help structure your material in a way that will make it more accessible to all members of the research group.
If you have logged in using the id/password of testuser/testuser you will see the Image Galleries menu item on the left and you can explore this menu item to see some example Galleries.
You will want to use this facility in many different ways but some typical uses are:
You can create and manage multiple Galleries to safely store and share all your historic photographs. When each image is uploaded a small 'thumbnail' image is automatically created so that the whole Gallery can be easy reviewed. To look at any particular image in detail you can simply click on the thumbnail to show the full image, as well as any additional descriptive text that you can add and update over time for each image.
- Scanned original documents:
If you scan your original documents you can then store and share these valuable primary sources of information within your One Name Study research group. Apart from wanting to pool and share secure copies across the whole research group - quite often review by other members of the group can spot some small detail, that can often lead to one of those 'break throughs' that every family history researcher is looking for.
Each research group using these facilities should of course take due regard of any copyright restrictions that may apply to material that they store using the ONSshoebox, and it would be good practice for the group to develop and publish a policy for such matters.
The Image Galleries are designed for image files, typically .JPG file formats; any other documents e.g. PDFs should be stored in the File Galleries.
If you have any questions or suggestions for using Image Galleries then please do post a comment in our Demo Feedback Forum which you can access once you login using the id/password of testuser/testuser.
