PhpGedView overview
The PhpGedView demonstration site
http://www.yourname.genesons.com/phpGedView/ can be used to gain a general familiarity with the range of facilities available, but once you have your own PhpGedView system established, this guide provides a check list of items to be carried out by a new Customer in order to get their new PhpGedView web site populated and in use by the wider research group as quickly as possible.
If you have provided an initial GEDCOM file as part of your subscription submission this will have already been uploaded for you, if not, your tree will have been 'initiated' by creating a single individual with a general name of Yourname Surname.
The PhpGedView software has extensive built-in help facilities and like most software, it is sometime best to just get started and experiment with all the various facilities. The following however gives you a simple check list that you can work your way through to get going with the basic functions and the additional links provide you with further support information.
This check list is still being developed - so please check back later or post an information request at the support Forum if there is some specific information you need.
- Review and modify (if necessary) your set up
Your new system will have been established with a standard configuration and for most users this will be perfectly adequate. The PhpGedView
? software however provides you with a very wide range of configuration options and the following link provides more detailed information on some of the more common adjustments you may wish to consider:
Configuration Management.
Your new system will have been established with a single user with full administrative permissions (in addition to the GenesONS master admin address which should be left unchanged). To add further users the following link provides you with further detailed information: Adding new Users
?.
- Building upon your existing family tree
No matter whether your PhpGedView system was initiated with an existing GEDCOM file or a single individual you will at some point want to extend the tree by adding new details or additional related individuals. The following link provides some further details on some of the ways this can be done: Extending your existing tree
?
- Starting an unconnected branch
At some point you may wish to start a new 'branch' of your family tree with an individual that is not 'connected' to any of the current individuals. The easiest way to do this is described in more detail in the following link: Starting a new branch
?
